Sawm: Sawm is fasting and is the the fourth pillar of Islam. During the month of Ramadan, all adult Muslims must give up the following things during the daylight hours: food and drink, smoking, and sex. Because it is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, the fasting is a major part of the religion and is strictly obeyed and if it is interrupted for any reason it is suggested to be made up at another time.
Anglo-Persian Oil Company (Anglo-Iranian Oil Company): It was an English company founded in 1908 following the discovery of a large oil field in Masjed Soleiman, Iran. It was the first company to extract oil from Iran. In 1935 it was renamed the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company and in 1954 it became British Petroleum (BP). Persian Empire- Cyrus the Great came to power in Persia in 550 BC and he and his successor Darius created and expanded the Persian empire. The empire lasted until 332 BC when Alexander the Great defeated the Persians. Iran has been a country in some form or another since then and the Persian culture is a large part of the Iranian identity, although less so than Islam.
